Tekel

A verse that has lingered in my mind ever since Keith preached through Daniel is Daniel 5:27, “Tekel, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting.” The context is that God has written on the king’s wall and Daniel is interpreting the words back to the king.  “Tekel” being one of the words.

I tell you what, I never want to be found wanting when it comes to my relationship with God! I want to get to work for the Kingdom, I want to bear fruit, and I want to honor God.

I don’t want to be found wanting on judgment day.

Now, I know that Daniel 5:27 is speaking on the wickedness of the king and God’s taking of his life. And I also know that my good works won’t get me into Heaven, or the lack of works bar me from there either. But regardless, I have taken that verse and applied it to my daily living in Christ.

I don’t want to waste my life here on earth. I want to live a fruit bearing life that God is deeply pleased with! I don’t want to get to Heaven one day and God say to me, “you’ve been found wanting in the ‘fruit bearing,’ Nathan! You didn’t do anything for my name, or use the gifting I gave you!”

We all should be using our time on earth for God’s glory first and foremost; making the best use of our time, possessions, and talents. Those who are in Christ are safe and secure in His hands, yes, but that doesn’t mean we get to ride the bench into eternity! Don’t be found wanting!

See each day as a new opportunity for gospel-centered work. See each person as someone to share Jesus with. Don’t waste your life here on earth with fleeting/temporal things. Don’t say, “tomorrow I’ll start.” Spend your time here and now doing the things that God expects of you. Don’t be the wicked servant from the parable who does nothing with what is given to him!

My desire is for us to be incredibly fruitful in our lives. Let’s not be found wanting!
